Have you ever wondered how to get your whole family involved in the game of golf? Well this story from Cabdirashid Xuseen, father of six children, has been able to get all of his children, involved in the game! Cabdirashid Xuseen grew up in Somalia where golf doesn't exist. After moving to the United States at the age of 25, he watch a young Tiger Woods playing a sport he had never heard of in his hometown, Los Angeles. Since that moment his whole life and family dynamic has changed and golf is what they all play, together!

Michelle Holmes is the Director of Instruction at Michelle Holmes School of Golf. She is well known around the world for her coaching programs and junior golf initiative. Their slogan is "Creating experiences that encourage kids to play the game forever" and that is exactly what we cover in this episode. We are going to talk all about learning and play in this episode with Michael Hebron who has received over twenty - five awards , including National PGA TEACHER of the Year. In 2013 Michael was inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame. In 2019 elected to the World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame.
Michael believes there are many good reasons to study and research the brains connection to the nature of learning and they arrive every day in every learning environment. Michael says "Play" stands for Powerful Learning About Yourself. We are going to discuss this and some other topics such as paradoxes around learning golf.
Michael has been researching the brain’s connection to learning with lots of help from award-winning educators and scientists for over two decades. What happens after a lesson is his concern. He has written six books and over one hundred instruction articles .
Michael has been invited to speak all over the world and I feel fortunate that he was so kind to come and join us on the raising golfers podcast.

Parent Stories: This is an interview with the parents of Alex Chin, Division 1 golfer at The University of San Francisco. Alex has built up quite the resume already with recent tournament wins, a number of top 10's and most recently named the 2020 NCGA Player of the Year! Emily and Alan Chin have been the support system needed for Alex since he began playing golf at a young age. In this episode they talk about what they have learned as parents along the way, how much they have enjoyed the whole process and advice for us adults on how to make this the best experience for everyone!
A few things that Emily and Alan repeat over and over was how important the environment Alex was in during his junior golf years, shaped him into the person and golfer he is today. They also talked about the process and understanding that there are going to be ups and downs, but to not over analyze ever score or situation, but just to see it as part of the process.
Emily and Alan really spoke on a lot of values this podcast holds and offer a lot of experience and advice for all of us to take away.

I constantly have this inching feeling as a parent to see my children progress, or hit the next developmental stage, and then regularly have to put myself in check and tell myself to chill out. Why do we constantly have this feeling? What do we need to understand as adults about child development to better embrace this process? These are questions Neil Plimmer and myself are going to discuss on this episode!
In addition we will discuss why there is time, how progression looks, and how long your junior golfer might stay in a particular developmental stage so that we as adults can have a piece of mind and be able to relax and enjoy the journey even more!

In today's world, technology is very prevalent and using it in golf is no exception. In this episode Roy Ellis, golf coach from Sussex, England, is going to talk about how to use it effectively in teaching juniors. Roy's journey in golf is very unique and not your classic way to be introduced to the game nor how he became a golf coach.
Roy brings up a great point and that is that if you are going to use technology in lessons, it has to somehow relate to playing the game on course. There are a variety of ways to do this, and Roy discusses how he does it in this episode.

Failure comes at a cost, it isn’t free and it isn’t going to be easy. This week Gavin Grenville-Wood from Leadbetter Kids and I will discuss failure in junior golf. We touch on a number of questions such as, do you run from it or take it head on? What are your values around failure? What are your values for your children growing up in the game of golf? We believe once you have that clear, you will be setting up yourself, your children and those around for success whatever it may be.
